Single and double are two terms for the same bed size. There is no essential difference between the two, but they are called differently. The two terms are often used interchangeably.
"Single" used to be the more popular term, but today, "double" is more commonly used. This is true in most countries, although some countries still like the term "single." The term originated because hotels often place two single beds in the same room-"double" single beds.
Some single beds are designed to be purchased and used in pairs. However, this is not required, and the size of the double bed and the single bed is the same.
The size of a double bed is usually 38 inches x 75 inches (sometimes 39 inches x 75 inches). This makes it the smallest mattress outside the bed designed for cribs and toddlers. It is of course designed for a sleeper.
We usually recommend two single beds for children and teenagers, and occasionally two single beds for single adults who don’t need much space.
